Apple is a distinctly young company with a fierce work ethic. On occasion, however, even they can take a break for a company beerfest. This month’s celebration coincided with their annual Apple Company Games, so there was ample cause for celebration when Amanda and I arrived on the Apple Campus this afternoon. There were nearly fifty teams, Brian’s being The Mighty Mech Ops. Each had its own t-shirts, a giant sign, and, for the more spirited groups, other accessories to show their unity. It was basically elementary school field day for grown-ups, meaning field day plus alcohol. I really wanted to join in some of the events. It kind of made me wonder why I’ve decided grad school’s for me.
At the day’s end, we met up with CV and Esteban to prepare a dinner and I even broke out my pisco and quite successfully made a set of pisco sours for the group. The recipe goes as follows:
4 cups ice cubes
1 cup pisco
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/3 cup powdered sugar
1 egg white
aromatic bitters
Place ice cubes, pisco, lemon juice, sugar, egg white, and bitters in the bowl of a blender. Blend on high speed until finely pureed. Pour into glasses and garnish with an additional dash of bitters and dust with cinnamon.
Another MIT ’09 alum in the area also swung by that evening. Together we shared stories about where our post-MIT lives are beginning to lead us, though admittedly the rest of them sounded far more grown up than me. It’s kind of weird to realize so many of my friends are diving head first into the real world. How did this happen?
