App-lay Pee-ay à la française

This entry is a bit late, but just before leaving for my Italy vacation, in honor of Claudia, Valentin, my roommate Damien, and I cooked (or attempted) our first apple pie in France, or "app-lay pee-ay," as my Italian flatmate Claudia used to call it. (Italians all study English, except for some reason their language education system leaves out the part on pronunciation, so while most Italians will recognize basic English vocabulary, they will only recognize when pronounced with Italian pronunciation, and thus the "app-lay pee-ay" was born.) Cooking what you know to be a traditional recipe in a place where it isn't so traditional is not always so straight forward. Things are further compounded when you’re trying to translate a list of necessary ingredients and cooking instructions while attempting not to burn or slice yourself. The final product wasn’t much of a success, but it was one of those times when the path mattered more than the final destination.

And the countdown to my next Thanksgiving abroad begins: 100 days to go!
